Within a short driving distance from Pumula you can fish for trout and salmon in the Rakaia River go windsurfing or hot air ballooning, or for the more adventurous white water rafting will keep you energised!
Mt. Hutt and Methven offer worldclass skiing, during the winter months, and biking and tramping trails during the summer months.
Ashley and Waimakariki Gorge areas
These areas are remnants of the native vegetation that once existed throughout the region.
Recreational opportunities range from interesting short walks to scenic waterfalls, challenging tramping routes along exposed mountain tops, as well as kayaking, rafting and mountain biking.
The area bounded by Ashley Gorge to the west and the catchment of Glentui River in the east forms part of the 10,800 hectare Mt Thomas Forest.
